As a management company we provide a start to finish service for your project. Following an initial site visit, we can arrange tree safety reports, ecology reports, planning applications and felling licences as appropriate.

OUR SERVICES

Tree Surgery across Shropshire, Herefordshire & Powys

We specialise in all aspects of tree surgery and management. including precision dismantling and felling of mature and dangerous trees in the most challenging of situations, using experienced climbers, cherry pickers or cranes as appropriate.

We are a fully qualified and insured team with health and safety at the forefront of all we do. We carry a £10 million public liability cover and £10 million employers’ liability cover, ensuring your property and our staff are in safe hands. We also hold an environment agency waste carriers’ licence for the removal of arisings off sites.

Crown Reduction, Crown Lift & Reshaping

We aim to save mature trees wherever posible. Crown reduction, the selective removal of branches and limbs to reduce the overall height and width of the canopy, or a crown lift to remove lower limbs and give higher ground clearance can solve safety, light blocking or aesthetic problems. An overall reshape to visibly balance and enhance the tree’s canopy can also promote better growth formation.

Precision Dismantling & Dangerous Tree Removal

When a tree has to be removed and felling is not possible due to lack of space, poor access or its position over a building, we can carefully deconstruct it in stages.  Roadside tree care is a key part of our work as owners are liable for any damage caused if trees are left in an unsafe state. We work from our own 20-meter 70 ft tracked cherry picker that is extremely versatile in compact spaces and can fit it through a garden gate. We also work with a local crane company with an experienced operator.

Felling & Stump Grinding

Where space and safety allow, we are experieced in felling trees from ground level, using tractor & winch where necessary. We can grind and remove stumps complety if required. Ash trees with Dieback will become brittle over time and will lose limbs and branches in windy conditions, so felling needs to be done in a timely fashion before safety becomes an issue. We can advise on this.

Pollarding & Coppicing

Sometimes trees outgrow their allotted space and obscure street lights or impede vehicles. Pollarding involves removal of all the branches and canopy off the tree. Although it can look drastic at first, it actually promotes growth from the new cut points. It also checks root growth which means that the tree grows more slowly and can have a longer life in its position. We also undertake coppicing as part of woodland management projects. Cutting trees close to the ground promotes new growth, lets in more light and increases biodiversity in the understorey.

Tree Planting & Woodland Establishment

We are passionate about creating new woodlands and have planted over 9000 trees in the last 5 years. We have worked in new and existing forestry plantations, on country estates, on roadside verges and in smallholdings and gardens. We can clear and prepare sites for planting and advise on species and planting schemes if required.

Garden & Site Clearance

Our Robo cut tracked flail forestry mulcher/mower is ideal for clearing rough areas of ground including gorse or bracken and for cleaning around trees and forestry tracks. We are experienced in winching operations to remove felled limbs and trunks and in chipping smaller branches to create mulch.

ABOUT OLI – Founder, Director & Team Leader

ABOUT OLI – Founder, Director & Team Leader

I’m Oli Francis, a fully NPTC qualified tree surgeon and tree surveyor with a passion for all aspects of arboriculture and forestry. The driving force behind our company is a desire to leave the countryside better than we found it through the careful management of trees and forests.

I have a strong belief in our responsibility to preserve our environment for future generations and am lucky enough to have a customer base who are as passionate about trees as we are here at Arboretum. This has enabled us to plant more trees over the last 5 years than we have removed – that’s roughly 9000 trees in new and existing forestry plantations, roadsides and gardens.

I started out in 2004 as a groundsman and worked my way up to lead climber and team leader, working for several tree surgery companies for 9 years before starting Arboretum in 2013.

Competence and experience are at the heart of all we do,  so you can be assured you and your project are in safe hands.
